Janelle Bugarini

Ms. Bugarini was born in sunny Acapulco, Mexico, where she lived for the first 12 years of her life. When she was in the 7th grade, she moved to the Bay Area with her mother and brother, attending school until her graduation from Menlo Park-Atherton High School.

College brought Ms. Bugarini across the bay to UC Berkeley, just a stone’s throw from BHS. There she participated in the UC Berkeley Intl. Summer Program which sent her abroad to study and travel in Cuba, Barbados & Spain. Ms. Bugarini finished her undergraduate studies in 1996 receiving a B.S. in Spanish Literature. Through a fellowship with the New York City Teaching Fellows, Ms. Bugarini earned her Master’s Degree in Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from City College New York. A long way from Acapulco, she accepted a position in the Bronx teaching English language learners in elementary school. The following two years sent her back down to New York City to teach in Harlem. This is Ms. Bugarini’s third year of teaching at Berkeley High School. When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Bugarini enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, especially her mother.

What is Ms. Bugarini’s teaching philosophy?
She feels every student is capable of success, although a good teacher is just half the battle. The other fifty percent must come from the student.
