College Counseling
We are a college preparatory small school. We look at college matriculation as a two stage process. First, you must get accepted to the college of your choice, and second, you must find the money to go. We consider a successful application as a weighted sum of good grades, good standardized test scores, great recommendations and at least one extra-curricular activity. As soon as our students are freshmen, we help them with all aspects of applying to the college of their choice. We help them explore possible career choices through workshops and class time; we monitor their four-year plan so that they have the required courses, and we have a class that seniors take to deal with the mechanics of applying to the college of their choice. Last but not least, we interface with the College and Career Counseling Center at BHS to ensure that our students receive all of the benefits that Berkeley High has to offer.
The following is a grade by grade guide of “steps to do” to manage the college application process over a student’s four year tenure at Berkeley High developed by the BHS College and Career Center. You'll notice that most due dates are for 2006, however, the substance of what you must do remains unchanged:
What should you do in 9th grade?
What should you do in 10th grade?
What should you do in 11th grade?
What should you do in 12th grade?
Please take a look at a video of the CP Academy Parent Council sponsored March 10th 2007, College Info Session given by Ilene Abrams, BHS College Advisor. The video of the session is divided into 17 different sections.

If you are on a dial-up modem, the videos might take a little time to download, as we do not have a streaming server. However, they are informative and worth the wait. Good Luck.
