A Message from our Counselor

Greetings,

I am excited to write to you as the new CP Academy counselor. I’d like to tell you a bit about myself and encourage you to call me, email me or visit my office whenever you can.

I have a long history in the Berkeley schools, starting with my own schooling. I attended Thousand Oaks, Columbus (now Rosa Parks) and King. Although I did not attend Berkeley High, both of my siblings did – including my brother who was a student in CPA in the early 1990s.

My first job at BHS was as Mr. Slemp’s Assistant. Those of you who were here in 2003-04 may have met me then! It was during that year I decided I wanted to be a counselor, and I spent the next two years obtaining a Master’s degree in School Counseling and Marriage & Family Counseling from San Francisco State University. My first internship was with 9th graders at BHS, and I have also worked at Berkeley Arts Magnet Elementary School and King Middle School.

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with your children, and sincerely hope to meet each of you this year. Please call or email me, drop by, or set up a meeting with me at your convenience. Getting to know kids and families is my number one priority, as I believe relationships are the key to helping kids reach their greatest potential.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Caren Ohlson. MS/MFCC CPA Counselor
